Ponder Questions page 80

1. Describe the effect of this approach of advertisements on you.

Well, for me the ads that was made by "Dove" and "Always" are nice because they gave inspiration to other girls out there that have a low confidence in them. That all the girls should just be true to their self. It is that every girl is unique in her own ways, that it should not affect them if other people would say that they do things like a girls. Because we are girls and also because it doesn't mean that we can't do what others do.

  2. Is it better to explicitly state the values that an advertisement is promoting?

Yes, in may opinion, it would be nice if they do this and explain what they are trying to promote. Rather, than just say stuff about something that in the end would just produce something bad.

 3. By explicitly stating values, did these advertisements mute other values?

I think,it is "Yes" and "No" for me, because they slightly muted the other values that they didn't give emphasize on. However, they just said what they want to advertise to people and it is up to them how would they think about it.

  4. How are these advertisement different from the usual soap or hygiene products?

It is different from others because this advertisements shows the story of what every girl go through in life. Their struggles in life when other people are just so quick to judge them. The way how mostly other guys see a girl. (Not All.)

5. What are the positive aspects of these advertisements?

They help boost the confidence of the girls. They give a chance for the girls to stand up for their self. They also make guys realize that they should respect girls not only girls but even other people.

6. What are the negative aspects of these advertisements?

It somehow put other people down like in the dove advertisement. It is also very long that you would think that it is not a product commercial any more.

7. How were these advertisements able to communicate a positive message?

By giving people a chance to make their voices be heard. By also proving that being a girl is a good thing because it is who I am.

8. Would you say these advertisements were "scripted"? Are the people in the ads real?

Yes of course it is scripted but I believe that some of it is not. Because the people in the ads were real and they all have their different stories to tell.

9. To what extent would you say do these advertisements depart or question stereotypes, and to what extent do they perpetuate stereotypes?

I think that this ads don't harm anyone because it is just sharing the stories of this girls about some of the problems that they face in this society.

10. How would you characterize the tension between selling "positive values" and selling products?

I think that the tension between selling "positive values" and selling products is something that goes together when they are showing  this kinds of advertisements because it just shows us the reality that a girl faces in this society.

So, to every girl out their don't look down on yourselves, but prove to the world, even to yourselves that you are worth more than what the society says. So, just be yourself and not somebody else.

HORROR HOUSE!!!

The Eye is a movie that is originally is a Hong Kong - Singaporean movie that is made in 2002. It is a story about a girl that  was blind first  but when she got her eyesight she realized that she started to see ghost. Her name was Mun.

If you want to know more about her then  I suggest that you watch the whole movie. However the links are just the trailers for this movie would be at the bottom.

Now let us analyse the three version of ''The Eye".

1. How does the trailer of the original movie market itself?

The original movie was made in 2002 and since it is made in Singapore, they tried to at least keep their own way on making the movie. They also tried to keep their culture in it. However, they still made it somehow appropriate to match the standards in the years of 2000's.

2. How do the remakes market themselves?

The remakes were Indy and Hollywood. They made it like this so that it would fit in globalized market. So that they would not have a hard time to show the movie in cinemas.

3. How do the notions of "local" and "global" come into play in these three films and their trailers?

It is "local" when it is basically shown on the country that made the movie. However, it is "global" when the movie is shown in different countries.

4. Who do you think were the target audiences of the original and remakes?

Basically they targeted "teens" and "young adults" for this movies. Their main goal is to give people something to watch and  something that they would enjoy. While they gain money.

5. Which was the most financially successful of the three films?

The remake in 2008  of "The Eye" is the most financially successful among the three movies. They really gave their time and money for the movie. They also have a bigger budget than the other films and also got a good actress to portray the role.

THE GUARDIAN ~ ANALYSIS

PONDER

The story is basically based on the story of the three little pigs, but there is a twist to it. It looks at the story in a different perspective. They look in the side of the story of the wolf and also the side of the pigs. They investigated on the case of how and why the wolf die in the story.

They saw in the story that the wolf was just framed and was accused by  the pigs. The pigs did  that because they were trying to get insurance taxes and they used the death of the wolf to cover this up. In the end the pigs admitted their crime and because of the issues that  happened between the wolf and  the pigs there became a riot in the city.

If I was in that situation, I would research first all the facts before I believe who they said that is guilty of the crime. I would find out the truth when I got all the legit facts about the issue.
